What Sterilization Procedures Are Used in Your Office?

At Skelton Orthodontics, we pride ourselves in maintaining a sterile environment in the areas where patients are treated and where instruments are kept.  We understand the importance of preventing contamination and are dedicated to providing a clean atmosphere for our patients.

A dry-heat sterilizer is used to sterilize all jointed instruments (such as pliers) and other metal instruments that can withstand high heat.  A steam autoclave is utilized to sterilize handpieces and other plastics that can withstand heat, but not at the levels of the dry-heat sterilizer.  Any plastics that cannot withstand heat are sterilized in a cold solution that kills all bacteria and spores.  Monitoring is performed on a regular basis to be sure that all sterilizers are operating at peak efficiency.

Surface disinfectants and antibacterial wipes are used on counters, side units, and lights after patient treatments.  We would be happy to discuss any aspect of sterilization or infection control with you.
