Usually, Dr. Skelton does not use colored ties.  Although children and teens enjoy the bright colors on their teeth, recent developments in orthodontic technology have shown that colored ties and chains actually slow tooth movement, cause longer treatments, and can trap food and plaque. 

Dr. Skelton has attended multiple orthodontic seminars that have demostrated the importance of using self-ligating brackets and decided to use the Inovation-R® bracket in his office.  He trusts this design, and has used it to treat his own children and other patients for the past 4 - 5 years.  This bracket attaches to the archwire without the use of colored ties or steel ties, and teeth move faster with lighter forces.  Treatment times are usually a little shorter than with conventional brackets.
